Time Killers for at Home

I’ve put together a list of activities that might be helpful in passing the time. Hope some of these put a smile on your face and give you some inspiration for getting through the day.

  • Visit your local library and expand your reading by trying a new book from a genre you usually shy away from.
  • Clean up your workspace or bedroom. If you live alone or want to be helpful, then you could clean the entire house.
  • Paint a wall that needs a new coat of paint, or you could even paint a new colour onto a cupboard or a door to add a splash of colour into the room.
  • Plant a vegetable garden and enjoy the benefits of home-grown foods.
  • Bake a new recipe or try and perfect that one dish you could never quite get. Some great new dishes can be discovered, or a new family favourite could be stumbled across.
  • Learn an instrument. Piano is one of the best instruments to start learning! I can wholeheartedly recommend learning the piano.
  • Exercise. Simple as that.
  • Write a novel or short story. The only limit is your imagination!
  • Become a poet and know it.
  • Become a home comedian and entertain your family or pets with hilarious stories and jokes.
  • Master magic and be able to fool anyone with your super cool tricks and skills.
  • Take your pet on a walk. This would probably only work best for dogs, but hey, you never know, a bird might really enjoy going for a walk.
  • Stargaze in the middle of the night. Make a hot drink of your choice, grab a blanket and picnic rug, and head out into your backyard and stargaze to your heart’s content.
  • Have a campout in your backyard. Spend the night in a tent. If the laws allow it, start a little fire, and cook up some dinner if you’re really keen or roast some marshmallows over the fire and enjoy a warm snack. Before bed you can watch a movie or tell scary stories.
  • Test your acting skills and create a short film. The more family members, the better! But be sure to have a few bribes up your sleeves for some effective backup.
  • Have a couch potato day and binge whatever catches your fancy. You can put your new baking skills to the test the day before and snack on your creations as you slowly morph into a couch potato. During this time you can expand your viewing norms and try a new show or movie franchise.
  • Go through some of your old possessions and declutter or organise that one shelf that’s always overcrowded.
  • Take on that one area that is never clean and make it something you’re proud of.
  • Recreate a popular movie/TV show at home. Or create a movie version of a favourite book of yours.
  • Try your hand at painting. You don’t have to be ‘good’ to create art. Take inspiration from a plant, or an object you like.
  • Take this opportunity to go through all your clothing, see what fits, what doesn’t and what you can give away.
  • Do a pet photoshoot. Be as creative or weird as you like. These make great calendars for the year to come.
  • Take a trip down memory lane and scrapbook important days and events.

Enjoy!
